TEMPLE AND FAMILY HISTORY WORK

Our Temple and Family History focus for March and April will be indexing.  Indexing is an easy way to participate in Family History work and enjoy the blessings that come from doing so.  Family History is more than just finding ancestors to perform ordinances for.  Family History includes learning about your ancestors, uploading stories and photos, indexing, as well as researching your own family line.  Below are the steps to doing indexing.  Please contact John Norman Sr. if you would like additional help from the Temple and Family History committee.

We encourage everyone to participate in temple work by learning how to index and make it a goal to index at least 1 batch during March and April!

  1. Get into FamilySearch (https://www.familysearch.org). Login (or setup a new account if you don’t have an account already one setup)

  2. Look at the top menu and choose: “Indexing”

  3. A pop-down menu appears and select: “Web indexing”

  4. If you are new to Web Indexing, you will be invited to take a “Guided Tour”.  It is a test batch showing you how to index (it is not saved).

  5. When you are done with the Guided Tour, click on “Find Batches”.

  6. Find a batch that looks easy to start with, such as “Births in Wisconsin 1900 to 1940.”

  7. You will see instructions about the batch, read them carefully so you understand what information needs to be entered.

  8. Close the Project Instructions and begin indexing.

  9. You will first determine if each image has information that needs to be recorded. Usually you will mark “Yes” to each image.

  10. Enter the information you see in the image into input boxes on the left side of the screen.

  11. When you have finished all the images in the batch you can submit the batch.

  12. Then you select another batch or click “No thanks” and you can exit back to the main indexing menu and exit the program if you would like.
